Impact Analysis 101
Contact OIA when starting to draft a new policy proposal (NPP) to find out if an Impact Analysis is needed.
All policy areas must complete a level of impact analysis, but OIA decides if an Impact Analysis is needed.
Required information
You will need to complete a preliminary assessment or supply information in another format, such as a draft policy proposal.
Information that must be provided to help OIA decide if an Impact Analysis is required includes:
- overview of the policy problem
- objectives of Government intervention
- when policy will be publicly announced or introduced into legislation
- Identifying the decision maker, such as but not limited to the Prime Minister, Cabinet, Expenditure Review Committee, or your Minister.
- options available to Government, and
- general description of the impacts to businesses, community organisations and individuals.
