Graduate Training

Each year, the Office of Impact Analysis (OIA) delivers training to hundreds of graduates across the APS to enhance their skills in doing quality impact analysis. This interactive full-day workshop provides participants with the opportunity to learn about

  • The role of the OIA,
  • Australia’s Impact Analysis Framework and processes, and
  • Why Impact Analysis is important.

Participants will get the opportunity to work in groups to apply their learning on a policy scenario.

Through this training, participants will learn how to:

  • Define and assess a policy problem,
  • Identify the role of Government in addressing a policy problem,
  • Identify and propose a range of policy options,
  • Assess the potential net impact on affected stakeholders,
  • Apply findings from consultation, and
  • Identify challenges in implementation and evaluation.

Practically, this training will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to assist their policy areas meet the requirements of Australia’s Impact Analysis Framework and processes, and deliver the best possible policy advice.

The principles of this training will be an essential building block for participants as they embark on their career in the APS.
