The Office of Impact Analysis (OIA) provides a range of guidance documentation to help policy makers prepare impact analyses. The OIA can also provide support on all aspects of the impact analysis framework.

The OIA provides a range of training and development opportunities on best practice impact analysis. Training is fit-for-purpose across different roles, levels and career development needs. There are videos to help you better understand the OIA and how they can help.

Information on training

Foundation

Foundation level training builds fundamental skills and knowledge to apply the impact analysis framework in day-to-day policy work. This level of training is best suited for APS graduates, entry level officers, and those new to public policy. It provides a foundation to impact analysis and evidence-based policy making.

Practitioner

Practitioner level training aims to develop deeper knowledge of the impact analysis framework and how to prepare high-quality impact analysis. This level of training is best suited for experienced APS officers to enhance their analytical skills, and those preparing to complete impact analysis.

Specialised

Specialised training aims to develop or apply technical skills and knowledge such as:

  • applying the Regulatory Burden Measurement Framework (RBMF)
  • applying impact analysis on sunsetting legislation
  • conducting specific analysis on environmental, competition and distributional impacts.

The OIA can tailor specialised training to small groups upon request.
