Trusted Trader Programme

Regulation Impact Statement – Department of Immigration and Border Protection

On 8 July 2015, the then Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection announced the Australian Trusted Trader Programme, which will offer trade facilitation benefits to businesses that demonstrate secure and compliant supply chain practices. Benefits being pursued for accredited Australian Trusted Traders include expedited border clearance, reduced or priority inspections, priority access to trade services, and a dedicated account manager. The programme fosters partnerships with industry and offers tailored trade benefits to accredited traders. It is expected to increase the efficiency of transport and logistics supply chains, and make Australian trade more secure by better risk management. The Office of Best Practice Regulation (OBPR) has assessed that the process followed by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the level of analysis contained in the Regulation Impact Statement is consistent with best practice. The average annual regulatory savings is estimated to be $24.3 million, which has been agreed with the OBPR.
