Australian Immunisation Register Act 2015 - Federal Register of Legislation
Problem being addressed
The Australian Immunisation Register Rule 2015 (the instrument) sets out requirements for recognised vaccinations providers to report prescribed vaccinations to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). The instrument also defines prescribed bodies and outlines the circumstances under which these bodies may access AIR information for approved purposes.
The instrument was due to sunset on 1 April 2026.
Proposal
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing proposed to remake the instrument without significant amendments.
Assessment comments
Consistent with the Government's Policy Impact Analysis requirements for sunsetting instruments, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has certified that the instrument is operating effectively and efficiently in lieu of preparing an Impact Analysis for remaking the Instrument. This assessment was informed by consultation with Services Australia, state and territory health departments and internal stakeholders, including the National Immunisation Division.
Regulatory burden
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing estimates no change in the average annual regulatory costs burden to people, business or community organisations in remaking the instrument.
The OIA notes the attached Certification Letter incorrectly states that “The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (the department) has decided that the instrument is to be remade without significant amendment,” instead this should note: “It has been decided that the instrument is to be remade without significant amendment."
