Each year, the Office of Impact Analysis (OIA) delivers training to hundreds of graduates across the APS to enhance their knowledge and awareness of the Impact Analysis process, and in producing quality impact analysis. This training provides participants with the opportunity to learn about:
- the role of the OIA
- Australia’s Impact Analysis Framework and the 7 Impact Analysis questions
- the importance of Impact Analysis in decision making.
Participants will get the opportunity to work in groups to apply their learning to policy scenarios and to learn from experienced OIA officers.
Through this training, participants will learn how to:
- define a policy problem
- establish the role of government in addressing a policy problem
- identify and propose a range of policy options
- assess the potential net impact on affected stakeholders
- understand the importance and types of consultation
- identify challenges in implementation and evaluation.
Practically, this training will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to assist their policy areas meet the requirements of the Australian Government Guide to Policy Impact Analysis and deliver the best possible policy advice.
The knowledge and skills gained in this training will be essential building blocks for graduates as they embark on their career in the APS.
Our 3-hour graduate workshop is delivered in-person at the graduates’ home department, with hybrid or virtual formats available where needed. There is no cost for the training for APS agencies and all training materials are provided.
