Accessible adult change facilities in public buildings

Regulation Impact Statement for Consultation – The Australian Building Codes Board

On 2 March 2018, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) released a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) investigating the need for accessible adult change facilities for people with disabilities in public buildings. Accessible adult change facilities are sanitary facilities with additional features to assist people with more profound or complex disability who are unable to use standard accessible facilities independently. Comments are sought on whether to retain the status quo, amend the National Construction Code to require the construction of these facilities or provide financial incentives or guidance material to promote the construction of accessible adult change facilities in their buildings.

The Consultation RIS has been assessed by the OBPR and complies with the COAG requirements for COAG Consultation RISs.

Comments are invited by close of business, Friday, 13 April 2018, using the ABCB RIS response form and can be emailed to abcbris@abcb.gov.au under the title ‘Accessible adult change facility Consultation RIS’.
